Awoiska van der Molen, 2015

#412-9

Created by Awoiska van der Molen in 2015, the artist creates her photographs during long periods of isolation, in which she penetrates deep into the essence of the remote world which is the starting point of her work.

For extended periods of time, Van der Molen moves through deserted nature, wanders around, sleeps outside; she really takes time to experience the landscape in a different manner, beyond its initial appearance. Thus, she slowly uncovers the identity of the places, and reveals their specific emotional and physical qualities. This approach results in delicate and profound photographs of nature, still while simultaneously full of life.

This gradual and solitary working process is her way to produce her images, and continues in the darkroom. Indeed, she prints her analogue photographs by hand - her dark baryta prints contain mysterious contrasts between darkness and light.
